Driveway Questions

Residential driveway installation and replacement

How long does driveway installation take? +

Most residential driveways take 1-3 days from start to finish. Day 1 is typically site preparation and base work. Day 2 involves asphalt installation. Day 3 (if needed) is for edging, cleanup, and final checks. Weather can affect timing, so we'll give you a specific schedule during your consultation.

When can I drive on my new driveway? +

Light vehicle traffic (cars) can use the driveway after 24 hours. Heavy vehicles (trucks, RVs) should wait 48-72 hours. The asphalt needs time to cure and harden properly. We'll provide specific guidance based on weather conditions and project details.

What's the difference between overlay and replacement? +

Full replacement involves removing the old asphalt down to the soil, re-preparing the base, and installing fresh asphalt. Overlay involves applying a new layer of asphalt over the existing surface, which requires less cost and time. We recommend overlay only when the existing base is still solid—we'll assess your situation and suggest the right solution.

How thick should my driveway asphalt be? +

For residential driveways, we typically recommend 3-4 inches of compacted asphalt over a properly prepared base. Light-use residential driveways may use 3 inches, while driveways with heavier traffic (multiple vehicles, trucks) benefit from 4 inches. We always ensure proper base preparation beneath the asphalt for long-term durability.

Do you do driveway extensions or additions? +

Absolutely—we frequently add to existing driveways. The challenge is matching the color and texture of the old asphalt. While an exact match isn't possible due to weathering, we take steps to blend the transition as smoothly as possible. We'll discuss your options during the consultation.

Commercial & Parking Lot Questions

Business and municipal paving projects

Can you work outside of business hours? +

Yes, we understand that minimizing disruption is important for businesses. We can schedule work for evenings, weekends, and early mornings to accommodate your operations. Some projects require night work—discuss your needs with us during the consultation.

What ADA requirements do I need for my parking lot? +

ADA requirements specify the number and size of accessible parking spaces based on your total parking count, along with requirements for signage, paths, and slope. We stay current on ADA regulations and ensure all striping and marking work meets compliance standards. We can assess your current setup during a consultation.

How often should a parking lot be restriped? +

Typically every 12-18 months depending on traffic volume and exposure to sunlight. Faded stripes affect both appearance and safety. Regular restriping keeps your lot looking professional and ensures clear traffic guidance. We offer restriping-only services for existing asphalt surfaces.

What's the difference between sealcoating and resurfacing? +

Sealcoating is a protective coating applied to the surface—it slows deterioration and improves appearance but doesn't fix structural issues. Resurfacing (overlay) adds a new layer of asphalt over the existing surface, addressing some surface-level problems. Replacement involves removing and rebuilding from the base. Each has different costs and appropriate uses—we'll recommend the right approach for your situation.
